New Duck Lake PreK-12 School Officially Commemorated

Released on April 18, 2013

Today Education Minister Russ Marchuk joined students, teachers, members of the community and representatives from the Prairie Spirit School Division to officially commemorate the opening of the expanded Stobart Community School in Duck Lake.

“Community can have a positive impact on student success, and it is clear that the new preK-12 Stobart Community School was designed with the needs of both students and residents of Duck Lake in mind,” Marchuk said.  “I am confident that Stobart Community School will serve as a hub for the community, contributing to the growth and success of Duck Lake now and into the future.”

The upgraded preK-12 school is designed to accommodate 450 students, and includes a new multi-purpose room and a full kitchen for practical and applied arts classes.  Stobart Community School also features a number of programs and services linked to the larger Duck Lake community, such as a nurse practitioner’s office, instructional space for the Northwest Regional College, office space for the Valley Employment Program, a community fitness room and a 50 seat licensed child care centre.

“The expansion and renovation of Stobart Community School provides even more opportunities for learning and growing for the students in Duck Lake and area,” Prairie Spirit Board of Education Chair Larry Pavloff said.  “We know the completed school project has already impacted staff and students in many positive ways.”

The $20.6 million renovation was announced in April 2008.  The government contributed $13.9 million to the project.

Since November 2007, the Government of Saskatchewan has committed approximately $600 million toward 43 major school capital projects and approximately 900 additional smaller school capital projects across the province.
