New Rental Units for Tisdale

Released on April 4, 2013

Two new housing developments were officially announced today in Tisdale.  Caleb Village Retirement Community and a state-of-the-art four-plex will provide 54 new rental spaces to the people of Tisdale and the surrounding area.

“I am very excited to help open this new housing in Tisdale,” Social Services Minister and Minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation June Draude said.  “It has been wonderful to work with the Town of Tisdale to help make these developments a reality and increase the supply of good quality housing in Saskatchewan.”

“These two developments are welcome additions to our town, and I want to thank the province for helping get these projects off the ground,” Tisdale Mayor Al Jellicoe said.  “The new rental units will provide more good quality housing to our residents both now and for many years to come.”

Saskatchewan Housing Corporation is providing more than $66,700 toward these two projects through the Rental Construction Incentive – a program designed to help municipalities and developers create new rental units by providing municipalities like Tisdale with a matching provincial grant of up to $5,000 for each new rental unit constructed.

Caleb Village Retirement Community is a 94-unit apartment complex, with at least 50 of the units set aside for rental housing.  Tenants benefit from full meal services, light housekeeping, recreational activities, transportation to appointments and 24-hour staff.

JL Development’s four-plex is on the leading edge of energy efficiency and exceeds R-2000 and Energy Star efficiency standards.  When completed at the end of this year, tenants of the two-bedroom units will benefit from super-insulated walls and attic, soundproofing, in-floor heating, triple glazing and passive solar heat gain.

The Government of Saskatchewan continues to work with the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors to develop new housing opportunities in smaller Saskatchewan communities.  In total, 956 market rental units have been completed across the province under the Rental Construction Incentive including 131 in smaller communities.
