July's average weekly earnings reached an all-time record, according to a Statistics Canada report released today. Average weekly earnings in the province were $929.31, surpassing the previous record of $917.55 set in March 2012. Those earnings were the third highest among the provinces.
"The skilled job opportunities available in our province are boosting wages for workers," Economy Minister Bill Boyd said. "It has a direct impact on the economy and on the quality of life for people in Saskatchewan."
On a year-over-year basis, average weekly earnings increased by 7.1 per cent, the highest percentage increase among the provinces and well above the 4.1 per cent national increase. Non-farm payroll jobs were up 21,000, a 4.7 per cent increase that was the third highest percentage increase in Canada and well above the national increase of 2.9 per cent.
On a monthly basis, weekly earnings were up by 1.6 per cent in July 2012 compared to June, ranking Saskatchewan second in the nation in terms of percentage growth. The number of payroll jobs was unchanged from the previous month.
