LLOYDMINSTER HOSPITAL RENOVATIONS IMPROVE PATIENT EXPERIENCE

Released on September 27, 2012

Patients will benefit from significant improvements at the Lloydminster Hospital. The official opening of renovated emergency and admitting departments and a new mammography suite took place in Lloydminster today.

"This is an exciting step forward in improving health care facilities and services for people in and around Lloydminster," Minister responsible for Energy and Resources and Lloydminster MLA Tim McMillan said on behalf of Health Minister Dustin Duncan. "Streamlined and improved emergency care areas and introduction of digital mammography services are two of the steps taken to address increased demand for health services in this growing region."

The Saskatchewan and Alberta governments, along with donors through the Lloydminster Region Health Foundation, jointly funded the $3 million project with each partner contributing $1 million.

Improvements made to the emergency department include enhanced workspace and the introduction of a fast track service which allows better patient flow and reduces wait times.

Diagnostic and screening mammography services, which were not done at Lloydminster Hospital previously, are targeted to begin operating in November, saving patients the time and expense of travelling elsewhere for these important services.

"Today is a great celebration for the people of Lloydminster, and a great accomplishment for our two provinces in ensuring high-quality health services for our citizens," Vermilion-Lloydminster MLA Dr. Richard Starke said on behalf of the Alberta government. "I'm also proud to see the Lloydminster Region Health Foundation play an integral part in providing improved emergency care and mammography services for the region."

"The region is very grateful to the provinces of Saskatchewan and Alberta for recognizing and supporting the need for improvements to the Lloydminster Hospital emergency and admitting departments to help deliver better patient care," Prairie North Regional Health Authority board vice-chair Leanne Sauer said. "Prairie North also appreciates the unwavering support and commitment of the Lloydminster Region Health Foundation and its contributors in bringing hospital-based digital diagnostic and screening mammography services to Lloydminster Hospital for local area women."

"The foundation is proud to partner with Prairie North Health Region and our two provinces to enhance health care facilities, equipment, and services for the benefit of our citizens," Lloydminster Region Health Foundation chair David Schneider said. "We are particularly gratified to help bring mammography service to Lloydminster Hospital so that local area women will no longer have to travel away from the community to receive this important diagnostic service."

The Lloydminster Hospital is owned and operated by Prairie North Health Region, which provides services and programs to more than 78,000 residents of northwest central Saskatchewan from the Battlefords and Meadow Lake, to the Alberta border. The organization also provides health services for more than 18,000 residents on the Alberta side of Lloydminster and area. For further information please visit www.pnrha.ca.
