JULY RETAIL SALES TRIPLE NATIONAL AVERAGE

Released on September 25, 2012

Saskatchewan's July retail sales were the highest on record for the month, hitting $1.47 billion according to a report on retail sales released by Statistics Canada today. Sales increased by 9.1 per cent over the same period for July 2011. That's the second highest percentage increase among the provinces on a year-over-year basis, and triple the 3.0 per cent recorded nationally.

"There have been six consecutive months of increases for retail sales, and added to that, we've got another record for July," Economy Minister Bill Boyd said.

On a monthly basis, retail sales in Saskatchewan were up by 1.2 per cent in July 2012 over June 2012, and well ahead of the 0.7 posted nationally.
