The Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) is providing approximately $2.1 million in charitable gaming grants to more than 1,000 volunteer groups and organizations across the province.
"These grants recognize the efforts of Saskatchewan volunteers by providing them with additional funding to further support the important programs and services their groups and organizations provide," Minister responsible for SLGA Donna Harpauer said. "These volunteers enhance the lives of people in our communities and that work is appreciated."
Among the grants provided by SLGA this quarter: Yorkton and surrounding area received $98,408; Humboldt and surrounding area: $90,959; North Battleford and surrounding area: $81,847; Moose Jaw and surrounding area: $77,397 and Swift Current and surrounding area: $67,284.
The charitable gaming grant program provides a grant equal to 25 per cent of the net revenues raised through charitable gaming activities including licensed bingos, raffles, breakopen tickets, Texas Hold'em poker and Monte Carlo events. Groups that conduct licensed charitable gaming activities and events do not have to apply for the charitable gaming grant. Charitable gaming reports submitted by the groups are used by SLGA to calculate grants and paid out each quarter.
