PROVINCE CONTRIBUTES TO SECURING REGINA 2013 JUNO AWARDS

The 2013 JUNO Awards are coming to Regina and Moose Jaw, and the Government of Saskatchewan is providing the 2013 JUNO Awards Host Committee with $1.5 million to help ensure the province's incredible depth of talent will be showcased on April 15-21, 2013 during this national event.

"The impact this event will have on Saskatchewan artists through exposure and publicity is invaluable," Minister responsible for Tourism Tim McMillan said. "This funding commitment highlights our government's continued support of the arts in our province."

The JUNO celebrations, which recognize artistic and technical achievement in all aspects of Canadian music, offer Saskatchewan performers the chance to step into the national spotlight and perform for music fans and industry professionals. Supporting the JUNOs fits with the province's cultural policy, Pride of Saskatchewan, by promoting artistic excellence, providing access to culture, and facilitating commercial opportunities for artists. The $1.5 million in funding is to assist in covering the licensing fee required by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences in order to host the event.

Hosting the event in Regina and Moose Jaw will also be an exceptional opportunity to highlight the Saskatchewan music industry and the positive influence it has on the province's quality of life.

"With Moose Jaw partnering with Regina, people in both cities get to see Canada's most talented musicians up close and personal," Moose Jaw Mayor Glenn Hagel said.

"Regina has made its mark across Canada for hosting world class events," Regina Mayor Pat Fiacco said. "Everyone attending the JUNO's can expect to be welcomed with the charm and warmth our community is known for."
