Five families are enjoying safe, secure and stable housing as the Government of Saskatchewan and Muskoday First Nation (MFN) today officially opened five single-family homes in Birch Hills.
The total project cost is about $1.06 million, with $742,000 in funding provided by the province through Saskatchewan Housing Corporation (SHC). The funding balance (approximately $318,000) was contributed by MFN.
"These homes are an important measure of our success in actively working with our partners to help those in greatest housing need," Batoche MLA Delbert Kirsch said on behalf of Social Services Minister and Minister responsible for Saskatchewan Housing Corporation June Draude. "Our government is proud to successfully complete this project with MFN. Most importantly, together we are helping five local families live safely and comfortably in a quality home that they can afford."
"The Chief and Council of MFN always seek a way to improve housing options to our Band Members," Muskoday First Nation Chief Austin Bear said. "A few years ago, Cress Housing Corporation of Saskatoon approached the council offering a partnership with Saskatchewan Housing Corporation in the building of five single-family homes in Birch Hills with a projected cost of $1.06 million. Our council wants to take this opportunity to thank the Government of Saskatchewan and their officials for our successful partnership. Indeed the project was completed within budget and timeframe, and we are most happy for the five families that have an opportunity to live in safe and quality homes. Again, on behalf of our council, we thank all those who were involved in this successful project."
SHC continues to work with the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors to develop new housing opportunities in Saskatchewan communities. Since November 2007, 133 affordable rental units have been completed in Prince Albert and surrounding area, including 57 units for families.
The project consists of the new construction of five single-family bungalows located at 102 and 110 - 2nd Street East and 24, 30 and 35 Poplar Crescent in Birch Hills.
