GOVERNMENT HOUSE HOSTS “BUMP IN THE NIGHT” HALLOWEEN PROGRAM

Released on October 29, 2012

Government House will host its first "Bump in the Night" Halloween program October 30. The program will include a family fun event with games, crafts, refreshments and readings from "Ghosts of Government House" by author Judith Silverthorne. Later in the evening, there will be outdoor tours of the Edwardian Gardens and ghost stories inside of Government House.

"Government House offers a wide range of programming and activities," Minister responsible for the Provincial Capital Commission Kevin Doherty said. "I am excited to announce their newest "Bump in the Night" Halloween program that will not only explain some of the history behind this building in a fun and engaging way, but will encourage members of our growing population to check out this National Historic Site and Provincial Heritage property."

The family fun event for all ages will run from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. and the more eerie experience for people 14 years and up will take place from 8 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.

Children are invited to dress in costume. Prizes will be awarded for best costume.

Government House was built in 1891 and first served as the official residence of the Lieutenant Governor of the North-West Territories. It now offers more than 120 activities, including 8.5 acres of green space in the Edwardian Gardens that are family-friendly and available to everyone at no cost. Government House is part of the Provincial Capital Commission, which was established in April 2010 to promote and preserve the distinct heritage and cultural entities within the capital city.
