More than 100 delegates and officials from across Canada are expected to attend the Meetings of Provincial/Territorial and Federal/Provincial/Territorial Ministers responsible for Justice and Public Safety this week in Regina.
Justice Minister Gordon Wyant and Minister responsible for Corrections and Policing Christine Tell will host their counterparts from across Canada to discuss issues facing the criminal justice system.
"This annual event is our opportunity to compare notes with our colleagues and work together to strengthen our justice system," Wyant said.
"Gatherings such as this give us an opportunity to develop national approaches toward issues affecting the criminal justice system," Tell said. "We look forward to meeting with our colleagues across the country and working collaboratively to build strong programs to make our communities safer."
Saskatchewan will discuss a range of issues at the meeting, including:
- Responding to situations involving missing persons, particularly missing women and violence against Aboriginal women and girls;
- The shared federal and provincial responsibility for funding criminal legal aid; and
- The impact of community-based crime reduction initiatives such as the Prince Albert Community Mobilization Project.
This event will take place at the Hotel Saskatchewan from October 30 - November 1, 2012.
