AS WINTER APPROACHES WORK CONTINUES ON BRIDGES AND CULVERTS

Released on October 24, 2012

With winter weather starting to move into Saskatchewan, the major highway construction season is coming to a close, making this the last weekly highway construction update for 2012.

"We've had a productive construction season this summer," Highways and Infrastructure Minister Don McMorris said. "We were blessed with a particularly warm summer, allowing our construction crews to complete many projects. With winter coming, we will be focusing on bridge and culvert work that can continue into the winter season."

One of those projects is the $1.1 million bridge replacement near Maidstone in the eastbound lanes of Highway 16. The 15 metre-long precast concrete bridge over Birling Creek is scheduled to open to traffic in November with some paving work to be completed during the next construction season.

Travel information regarding emergency road closures, the status of ferries and barges and other road activities can be found on the Highway Hotline at www.highways.gov.sk.ca/road-conditions. It's also available by calling 306-787-7623 in Regina, 306-933-8333 in Saskatoon, the SaskTel cellular network at *ROAD, toll-free across Canada at 1-888-335-7623 and via the Highway Hotline mobile website at http://hotline.gov.sk.ca/sk/map/mobile/.

The Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure will also issue media advisories about highway activities impacting traffic, as required.

The weekly provincial highway construction update is posted to the Highway Hotline Facebook page at www.facebook.com/SaskatchewanHighwayHotline and tweeted @SKGovHwyHotline.
