The Lac La Ronge Indian Child and Family Services Agency (ICFSA) Inc. will be given an expanded off-reserve child welfare mandate thanks to an agreement with the Ministry of Social Services that will be fully implemented by December 1.
Under this new agreement, the Lac La Ronge ICFSA will provide child protection services, foster care, extended family care out of home care, services to 16 and 17 year olds, and foster parent supports both on and off-reserve in the Lac La Ronge service area.
"I am very pleased to partner with Lac La Ronge ICFSA to deliver these important services," Social Services Minister June Draude said. "This new partnership will provide seamless, timely and culturally appropriate services to children, youth and families in the Lac La Ronge area."
"This new agreement demonstrates the government's commitment to working in true partnership with First Nations people," Lac La Ronge Indian Child and Family Services Agency Inc. Director Dexter Kinequon said. "We will now be able to provide children, families and youth from the Lac La Ronge area with consistent services that are in-line with our traditional ways."
The Town of La Ronge is a unique combination of on- and off-reserve territories within the same small community. This agreement will allow for a more efficient child welfare system that will provide better continuity to children and families who transition both on- and off-reserve.
