GOVERNOR GENERAL TO VISIT SASKATCHEWAN

Premier Brad Wall announced today that His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada and Mrs. Sharon Johnston will visit Saskatchewan October 9 to 11. While in the province, Their Excellencies will tour northern communities and help celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Saskatchewan Legislative Building.

"When the Legislative Building was officially opened on October 12, 1912, the Governor General, the Duke of Connaught and great uncle to Queen Elizabeth, was able to join the people of Saskatchewan for the celebration," Wall said. "I am pleased to welcome His Excellency to our province as we commemorate the 100th anniversary of this significant event."

They will arrive in Prince Albert on October 9, where they will meet with city officials. His Excellency will then speak with students at the E.A. Rawlinson Centre before participating in a roundtable discussion at Community Mobilization Prince Albert. The Vice-Regal Party will then meet with First Nations leaders at the Prince Albert Grand Council before attending a community function at the Alfred Jenkins Field House where three Prince Albert residents will receive the Caring Canadian Award.

On October 10, they will visit the community of Wollaston Lake and Hatchet Lake First Nation before touring Cameco's Rabbit Lake uranium production facility.

The Vice-Regal Party will arrive in Regina on October 11 and meet with Mayor Pat Fiacco before attending a reception at Government House hosted by Lieutenant Governor Vaughn Solomon Schofield, where 20 recipients will receive the Caring Canadian Award.

Their Excellencies will take part in the anniversary celebrations at the Legislative Building, where they will present seven citizens with the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal.

The public is invited to attend the festivities at the Legislative Building that will begin at 6:30 p.m. and conclude with a fireworks display at 8:45 p.m.

Governor General David Johnston was sworn into office on October 1, 2010. He is the 28th Governor General since confederation.
