Another week of warm harvest weather has allowed Saskatchewan producers to get most of the crop in the bin. Ninety-seven per cent of the 2012 crop is combined, according to Saskatchewan Agriculture's Weekly Crop Report. The five-year (2007-2011) provincial average for this time of year is 83 per cent combined.
The southeast has 98 per cent combined; the southwest 99 per cent; the east central region 95 per cent; the west central region 96 per cent; the northeast 94 per cent and the northwest 97 per cent. Ninety-eight per cent of spring wheat and durum; 93 per cent of oats; 95 per cent of canola and 74 per cent of flax have been combined.
Across the province, topsoil moisture on cropland is rated as two per cent surplus, 35 per cent adequate, 41 per cent short and 22 per cent very short. Hay land and pasture topsoil moisture is rated as 34 per cent adequate, 38 per cent short and 28 per cent very short.
Farmers are busy finishing up harvest, controlling weeds and hauling bales and grain.
