Moose Mountain Provincial Park (MMPP) and the Upper Souris Watershed Association are seeking public input in developing a Surface Water Management Plan for the park.
The public will have the opportunity to suggest ways to protect Kenosee Lake and improve recreational opportunities on the lake. This guiding document will provide short, mid and long-term direction for future surface water management which includes lakes, rivers, ponds and other water collection areas within MMPP.
The fundamental priorities of the plan will focus on restoration of historical surface water flows, maintaining a natural diversity of waterscapes, landscapes, ecosystems and species, and conservation of unique ecosystems and rare species. The end result will be a comprehensive management plan that will define recommendations for watershed management and key actions needed to achieve the objectives of the plan.
"Involving the public is essential to the ongoing improvements within our parks," Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Kevin Doherty said. "During this meeting, the public will have the opportunity to provide historical information, comment on the goals and objectives and discuss ways to better manage the rivers, lakes and aquifer levels in the park."
Using scientific information, history and local knowledge, the Surface Water Management Plan will be a comprehensive document that guides future surface water management in Moose Mountain Provincial Park.
The Upper Souris Watershed Association will assist with facilitating and collecting information during a series of consultation meetings with non-government organizations, industry, First Nations and the general public to collect input which will inform the final recommended plan.

Government has invested $33 million to improve Saskatchewan's provincial parks from 2008 to 2012. Government is continuing to improve Saskatchewan's provincial parks by investing, over and above base capital funding, an additional $10 million in park upgrades from 2012 to 2016.
