SASKATCHEWAN SCHOLARSHIP OF HONOUR RECIPIENTS RECOGNIZED

Premier Brad Wall today recognized 83 recipients of the Saskatchewan Scholarship of Honour, which honours the commitment and sacrifice of the many Saskatchewan men and women serving in the Canadian Forces.

The Saskatchewan Scholarship of Honour pays tribute to returning soldiers as well as the spouses and children of injured or fallen soldiers. It provides a one-time award of $5,000 for post-secondary education to recognize their commitment to our country and our province.

"Our government realizes that our freedom and way of life is owed to the uncommon courage of those willing to serve in the Canandian Forces," Wall said. "We are pleased to bestow this scholarship on behalf of the people of Saskatchewan, as a token of our gratitude and respect to the individuals who stand up for peace and freedom with courage and dedication."

"Having grown-up in Saskatchewan, a province that values hard work, education and commitment, I am humbled to have been honoured by the people of Saskatchewan through the bestowment of the generous Scholarship of Honour," Land Force Doctrine and Training System Chief of Staff Colonel Ross Ermel said. "I join with all serving and former recipients of this award in thanking the province for recognizing our service and providing a means to enable our achievement of higher learning."

Eligible candidates must be:

  • Current or former Saskatchewan residents; 
  • Returning soldiers who actively served in designated military operations in the Canadian Forces (Regular or Reserves), after January 2001, or the spouse and/or child of permanently disabled or deceased soldiers who served in designated military operations after January 2001; and 
  • Enrolled in a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution.

Scholarship awards are initiated by the candidate's application. The Ministry of Advanced Education works with the federal government to distribute scholarship information to returning soldiers and their families.
