SYPE AND ENTERPRISE SASKATCHEWAN ANNOUNCE VOLTA AWARD FINALISTS

Released on May 14, 2012

Saskatchewan Young Professionals and Entrepreneurs (SYPE) and Enterprise Saskatchewan announced the finalists for the SYPE Volta Award. Four young business owners from across Saskatchewan have been selected and will now compete for the $5,000 cash prize that will be awarded at this year's SYPE Silver Spades Gala.

"The high calibre of this year's entries for the Volta award shows that young business owners in Saskatchewan are succeeding and taking advantage of the opportunities available in our province," Enterprise Minister Jeremy Harrison said. "Our goal is to encourage more young people to be entrepreneurs and bring fresh and interesting ideas into the Saskatchewan market."

The four finalists were chosen from a list of 32 applicants. The prize winner will be determined by a combination of Facebook votes and a SYPE selection committee. The finalists are:

  • Kalen Emsley and David Luba, owners of Ten Tree Apparel in Regina;
  • Justin Yawney, owner of Yorkton Plumbing and Heating in Yorkton;
  • Jeremy and Irina Hartsook, owners of HES Manufacturing in Eston.

Once again, Rock Bridge Realty Ltd. is providing the cash prize, and Rawlco Radio is partnering as the official media sponsor.

"I'm extremely pleased to be involved with the Volta Award," Brooks Findlay of Bridge Realty said. "Entrepreneurship is a way of life that relies heavily on one being resilient in their vision and passionate about their purpose. The impact of the entrepreneurial spirit in Saskatchewan is largely due to the individuals and businesses that are recognized by the Volta Award. Congratulations to all the nominees for this year's Volta Award, every applicant is deserving of applause."

"We are excited by the quality of the finalists and the diversity of industries that they represent," SYPE Regina President Marc Kelly said. "We look forward to celebrating their accomplishments at SYPE's 9th annual Silver Spades Gala, Thursday, June 14, 2012, in Saskatoon."

"We are proud to be involved for the second year in supporting the Volta Award," Rawlco Radio in Regina Vice-President and General Manager Tom Newton said. "We know the impact that entrepreneurs have and we are fortunate to work with many across the province every day. As a privately owned family company we understand the passion, drive and sheer hard work that is required to create a successful entrepreneurial business."
