A group of 10 northern high school students are travelling to Regina this weekend to participate in the Youth Mentorship Program and learn about Saskatchewan's provincial government, its history and heritage.
"I would like to welcome these students to their capital city," Minister responsible for the Provincial Capital Commission Bill Hutchinson said. "I know that the next few days will provide a fantastic educational experience for them as they learn about our provincial system of government and the role the public service plays in communities across the province."
This year's students are from the communities of Cumberland House, Turnor Lake and Buffalo Narrows.
The program, which runs from May 6 to 9, provides students with information on careers in the Saskatchewan public service and provides an opportunity to learn about the history of our province.
The students will tour the University of Regina and First Nations University of Canada, Government House, the RCMP Depot Division and the Legislative Building where they will attend Question Period. While in Regina they will meet with the Lieutenant Governor, the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Members of the Legislative Assembly and government officials to get an inside perspective of government and the legislative process.
The Youth Mentorship Program is sponsored through a partnership with the Office of the Provincial Capital Commission, Cameco, the Ministry of Education and the Government House Foundation.
