The government is increasing funding by 1.6 per cent to community-based organizations that assist people experiencing interpersonal violence and abuse.
"Assistance to those experiencing violence and abuse is very important to this government," Justice Minister and Attorney General Don Morgan said. "I am pleased that we have been able to allocate additional funds to these organizations that do such important work and make a vital contribution to the safety and security of Saskatchewan's most vulnerable citizens and families."
An additional $152,020 is being provided as part of the recently announced provincial budget. This money will be provided to 32 organizations across Saskatchewan that help people experiencing interpersonal violence and abuse, including 13 residential services for women and children fleeing domestic violence.
Funding for these organizations and others is delivered through the Ministry of Justice and Attorney General's Interpersonal Violence and Abuse (IVA) Program Unit.
During 2012-2013, a total of $9.6 million will be provided through the IVA Program Unit to operate 41 programs in 17 communities across Saskatchewan. These include family violence outreach programs, sexual assault services and transition houses, among others.
