Attendance numbers have risen over the past five years as RSM continues to inspire visitors.
The numbers are in and the Royal Saskatchewan Museum (RSM) saw a significant increase in visits last year. Total attendance at the RSM in 2011-12 rose by more than 9.6 per cent to 123,500 visits. That total includes casual and group visitation, education and public programming, special events and museum bookings. The bulk of the increase was in casual visitation, which is up by about 10,000.
"This increase continues a five-year trend of stable or growing numbers that reversed the previous downward pattern," Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Kevin Doherty said. "This increase of almost 10 per cent in one year is significant and reflects well on our increased efforts in programming and in marketing the museum."
Situated in the northwest corner of beautiful Wascana Park, the museum is a favourite destination for Regina residents as well as for tourists and school children from around the province.
"For more than 100 years the Royal Saskatchewan Museum has been the steward of our natural history while telling the scientific and human stories of the province," Doherty said. "The RSM is an amazing place to visit, to learn the history of the province and reflect on our shared heritage. This institution adds to our strong quality of life in Saskatchewan."
Casual visitors are invited to enjoy the following activities this summer:
- Daily activities for younger children in the Paleopit;
- Storytelling programs in the First Nations Gallery; and
- Discovery programs in all the galleries.
The Friends of the Royal Saskatchewan Museum are offering the following programming and activities:
- Summer camps for children and youth;
- Free drop-in programs on Thursdays and Sundays in July and August;
- Fun Film Fridays; and
- Megamunch's birthday party on August 11.
Entry to the RSM is free, with donations supporting the programs and activities of the Friends. The museum's galleries and gift shop are open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Visit www.royalsaskmuseum.ca to learn more.
