REGINA YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS WIN VOLTA AWARD

Released on June 15, 2012

Kalen Emsley and David Luba, owners of Ten Tree Apparel in Regina, have been declared the winners of the 2012 SYPE Volta Award presented by Saskatchewan Young Professionals and Entrepreneurs (SYPE) and Enterprise Saskatchewan. They were presented with a $5,000 cash prize from Rock Bridge Realty Ltd. at yesterday's SYPE Silver Spades Awards Gala.

Ten Tree Apparel is a quality clothing company that was started in early 2012. Its business plan involves giving back to the environment by planting 10 trees for every item sold. So far 40,000 trees have been planted in Saskatchewan and the company's clothing is now found in 45 stores across Canada.

"It's very exciting to see our young entrepreneurs using innovative ways to build a business and contribute to environmental conservation," Economy Minister Bill Boyd said. "Congratulations to Ten Tree Apparel for winning the Volta Award. We look forward to your clothing being sold in stores across Saskatchewan and internationally."

The SYPE Volta Award was created to recognize an outstanding young entrepreneur in the province. This is the second year running for the competition. It is presented through a social media campaign on Facebook designed to increase awareness and build interest in entrepreneurship among Saskatchewan's young adults.

The award is sponsored by Rock Bridge Realty Ltd. and Rawlco Radio. The winner was chosen by the combination of a SYPE selection committee and online votes, and was announced at the SYPE Silver Spades Awards Gala on June 14, 2012.
