98 NEW CAMPSITES TO OPEN AT CYPRESS HILLS INTERPROVINCIAL PARK

Released on June 11, 2012

There are now more campsites available for those wanting to spend July 1 in a Saskatchewan provincial park. On June 28, just in time for the July long weekend, 98 new, electric sites will open in Meadows Campground in Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park.

The new campsites in Meadows are part of the campground's expansion and re-development, which also includes a new service centre, six washroom buildings and a playground. The new sites are also larger than most sites in provincial parks, designed to better accommodate larger recreational vehicles. This expansion will bring the total number of electric campsites in Meadows Campground to 143.

"Over the last number of years we have been asking our visitors what they want as part of their provincial park experience," Parks, Culture, and Sport Minister Kevin Doherty said. "We heard more electrical sites, more service centres and larger sites. With the opening of these sites, we deliver on all three requests, demonstrating our government's commitment to our parks and our visitors and to improving the quality of life in Saskatchewan."

The new sites will be available beginning at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 28. Reservations can be made starting on Monday, June 18 at 12 noon, CST. Reservations can be made online at www.saskparks.net or by calling 1-855-737-7275.

The expansion of Meadows Campground is just one of many upgrades for Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park. Over the past three years, campsites in Rainbow and Terrace have also received electrification and a new visitor centre was completed and opened for public use. Since 2010, 252 sites in Cypress Hills have received new or upgraded electrical service.

This work was completed as part of the Government's commitment to add electricity to 1,000 campsites. The Government of Saskatchewan will continue to invest in its parks, committing an additional $10 million over the next four years for park upgrades.
