GOVERNMENT OF SASKATCHEWAN CONGRATULATES CHIEF ATLEO

Released on July 19, 2012

The Government of Saskatchewan congratulates Shawn A-in-chut Atleo on his re-election yesterday as National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations.

"Closing the education gap between First Nations and non-First Nations people in Saskatchewan is an important priority for this government," Premier Brad Wall said. "The leadership demonstrated by Chief Atleo on First Nations education in his first term is truly appreciated, and we look forward to continuing to work with Chief Atleo and other First Nations leaders to address areas of shared priorities."

Those shared priorities include enhancing early childhood and educational programs and expanding training opportunities to ensure that First Nations people and all citizens have the opportunity to reach their potential and benefit from the province's prosperity.

Wall said the Joint Task Force on First Nations and Métis Education and Employment, which is working to address those same priorities here in Saskatchewan, embodies the shared spirit of commitment, vision and success that is vital to our province's future.
