Government House is celebrating Heritage Week with the launch of a new interpretive series, The People Behind the Portico, Personalities of Government House.
"Exploring our heritage brings us greater understanding of who we are as a society," Minister responsible for the Provincial Capital Commission Bill Hutchinson said. "This series gives us a glimpse into the lives of the people who created the living history of Government House during the time when Saskatchewan began to carve out its own identity as a young province. It provides a true snap shot of Canadian history."
The series opened to the general public on Tuesday, February 21. Presented on interpretive panels throughout the rooms of the Amédée Forget Museum, it delves into the real lives of the people of Government House such as the architect behind the building's state-of-the-art design, former lieutenant governors and their families, faithful servants and visitors including members of the royal family.
The province has celebrated its rich heritage and diversity during each February since 1991. Saskatchewan Heritage Week coincides with National Heritage Day and Saskatchewan's Family Day on Monday February 20.
