A major facility redevelopment project in Kindersley is receiving $3.4 million in infrastructure support from the provincial government.
Government Relations Minister Jim Reiter announced today that the government is providing a grant to help the town with its $12 million, first-phase redevelopment of the Kindersley Exhibition Stadium and Multi-Use Facility.
"Recreation facilities like this one in Kindersley contribute to the rich quality of life we enjoy in our province," Reiter said. "Through our Saskatchewan Plan for Growth, we're committed to infrastructure investments that help build communities."
Economy Minister and MLA for Kindersley Bill Boyd will participate in a special presentation highlighting that support at tonight's Kindersley Klippers hockey game.
A major fire in January 2010 destroyed Kindersley's Exhibition Stadium and disrupted programming at its events centre. Since then the town has refurbished the events centre and built a new arena that opened earlier this year, completing the first phase of the project.
"The Town of Kindersley is exceedingly grateful to the Government of Saskatchewan, and in particular Premier Brad Wall and Ministers Reiter and Boyd, for this very tangible demonstration of support to our community," Kindersley Mayor John Enns-Wind said. "Projects like these cannot happen without partnerships at many levels, and we are pleased that the government is a partner with us in this significant redevelopment."
