Corrections and Policing, through the Ministry of Justice, will be providing a total of $1.3 million to continue funding for targeted police officers in communities across the province.
These police officers will conduct comprehensive investigations and work on a number of proactive, community-based policing initiatives in order to help reduce crime. This annual funding is provided to municipal police services in the cities Estevan, Moose Jaw and North Battleford.
The Government of Saskatchewan's Targeted Police Initiatives is responding to community crime-related priorities through the Enhanced Community Policing Program and the Organized/Serious Crimes Task Force Program.
"We're pleased to continue funding for targeted police initiatives to reduce crime," Corrections and Policing Minister Christine Tell said. "These efforts exemplify how these programs can help address the needs of residents and how targeting specific community needs to reduce crime demonstrates partnership and a dedication to community safety."
Funding through the Targeted Police Initiatives offer grants that support police-based efforts to reduce crime, victimization and the prevention and intervention of at-risk populations. In 2011-12, the province provided $13.23 million in targeted police grants to municipalities in Saskatchewan.
