WOUNDED WARRIORS WEEKEND WELCOMES SOLDIERS TO SASKATCHEWAN

Released on August 23, 2012

Soldiers from across Canada and the United States are arriving in Saskatchewan today in anticipation of the Wounded Warriors Weekend.

The soldiers will arrive at Saskatoon's John G. Diefenbaker International Airport before embarking on a trip to Prince Albert and Nipawin where they will partake in a number of events and activities including fishing, golfing and music programs.

The soldiers will be joined by caregivers as well as celebrity guests and politicians including Senator Pamela Wallin and Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan Vaughn Solomon Schofield, along with several Saskatchewan MLAs. All participants will be part of a motor vehicle convoy from Saskatoon on their way north. The Saskatchewan Transportation Company (STC) has donated a charter bus for the weekend.

"We are proud to be part of the Wounded Warriors weekend and welcome all of the soldiers to our province," Minister responsible for STC Don McMorris said. "The freedom that Canadians and Americans enjoy is thanks to the thousands of men and women who courageously serve in their country's armed forces."

The first annual Wounded Warriors Weekend takes place from August 23-27, 2012.
