A call to Saskatchewan's Turn In Poachers (TIP) line has resulted in the conviction of three men from Kinistino, Saskatchewan for shooting three moose out of season and leaving one to waste.
On Tuesday, April 24, 2012, in the Melfort Provincial Court, Jade Marion was fined $2,360 under The Wildlife Act for unlawful hunting and under The Wildlife Regulations for wasting game. Michael Gardipy and Robin Moostoos were fined $280 each under The Wildlife Regulations for leaving game to waste.
The Ministry of Environment began the investigation following a TIP call in January 2012. Conservation Officers were able to determine that a cow moose and her two calves had been shot out of season and that the cow moose was left to waste.
"The public's assistance is invaluable as we work to protect and preserve Saskatchewan's natural resources," Ministry of Environment's Compliance and Enforcement Director Ken Aube said. "I am confident that the penalties imposed in this case will deter others from this type of illegal activity."
