PLANNING OF NEW STUDENT HOUSING UNDERWAY

Released on April 3, 2012

Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration Minister Rob Norris announced today that the Government of Saskatchewan has provided $1 million for the initial planning of a new student housing project at the University of Regina.

The proposed project includes a student housing complex, child care facilities and other amenities, including parking.

"We are pleased to support the planning of the student housing project at the University of Regina," Norris said. "Over the past four years, the Government of Saskatchewan increased investments in student housing by more than 3,000 per cent, allowing us to provide more than 1,000 new beds for students across the province, and we continue to make students a priority right here in Regina."

"As enrolment at the University of Regina continues to grow, it is increasingly important that our infrastructure meets the needs of our current and future students," University of Regina President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Vianne Timmons said. "Our provincial government recognizes this, and its support for the planning phase of this student housing project is a strong example of its continuing commitment to our students and their success. We look forward to working together with government on this important project."
