A Habitat for Humanity partner family will soon achieve their dream of homeownership, thanks to $50,000 in funding assistance from the province through Saskatchewan Housing Corporation (SHC) and $75,000 from Boardwalk Rental Communities.
"This is yet another significant milestone in the history of Habitat for Humanity and the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation," Social Services Minister and Minister responsible for Saskatchewan Housing Corporation June Draude said. "We are pleased that Boardwalk Rental Communities has joined our circle of community partners to help one more family improve their quality of life by owning their own home. This project is aligned with a number of strategic priorities that were outlined in the recently released Housing Strategy for Saskatchewan, which include the need to increase housing supply, to improve housing affordability and to support individuals and families in greatest housing need."
"We are so grateful to Boardwalk Rental Communities for taking the initiative to provide $75,000 toward a home build to help another family achieve homeownership," Habitat for Humanity Regina CEO Dennis Coutts said. "We know that Boardwalk is very committed to building better communities, and this donation most certainly demonstrates that."
"Boardwalk is committed to building better communities," Boardwalk Community Development Director David McIlveen said. "It is our honour to partner with Habitat for Humanity in this significant investment into the community."
Since 2009, the province has dedicated $3.5 million in funding for Habitat for Humanity affiliates and chapters in Regina, Saskatoon, Yorkton, Moose Jaw, Prince Albert and Lloydminster to help build a total of 70 homes. To date, the government has committed more than $2 million of the $3.5 million in grant funding available to Saskatchewan Habitat for Humanity affiliates to develop 40 homes.
Located at 1049 Retallack Street in Regina, the home is expected to be completed in spring 2012. Each selected Habitat partner family contributes 500 partnering hours to build their home and other Habitat for Humanity homes. This assists in the development of the Habitat for Humanity community and their neighbourhood.
