Three special needs children now have a new place to call home thanks to the grand opening of Angel House in Swift Current this afternoon.
The Government of Saskatchewan provided South West Homes Inc. with capital funding of $125,000 to assist with the renovations and purchase of this new facility.
"This new home allows Angel House to provide better long term care for special needs children in Swift Current," Moose Jaw North MLA Warren Michelson said on behalf of Social Services Minister and Minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation June Draude. "It also helps Social Services ensure that more special needs children in Saskatchewan receive the care they need in a safe and supportive environment - an important goal of the ministry."
"Southwest Homes takes the responsibility of raising the children that have been entrusted to us very seriously," South West Homes Executive Director Susan Eidem said. "We strive to do our best to create a caring and homelike atmosphere where these kids will feel safe and secure and can grow to their full potential."
Angel House provides three Supportive Living Spaces, including individualized and age-appropriate development services to ensure the personal growth and natural development of children with disabilities.
Angel House first opened in 2008 in response to the need for emergency receiving resources for a child with special needs. In 2010, Angel House became a longer term resource for children with special needs. This new home will have the space required to provide the quality of care necessary for the children who receive services at Angel House.
