GRAND OPENING OF NEW $14.2 MILLION SCHOOL CELEBRATED TODAY IN PRINCE ALBERT

Released on September 26, 2011

The opening of the new École St. Anne School was celebrated today by Education Minister Donna Harpauer, students, staff, board members and community members.

The Ministry of Education contributed $10.8 million toward the design and construction of this new school development which is valued at $14.2 million. The school division funded the balance of the project, which replaces the previous St. Anne school. The new school has been built adjacent to the Westhill Community Centre. The two facilities will enhance each other by providing a central education, recreation and cultural centre to meet the community's growing needs.

"Government is proud to support the growth of Prince Albert and the continued success of the students in this community through our investment in the new École St. Anne School," Harpauer said. "With the integrated child care facility and the partnership with the Westhill Community Centre, we can see how the involvement of the community in planning has contributed to an exciting new school that will meet everyone's needs. The learning needs of students are changing, and the new school is built to meet these needs now and into the future. We are also currently working on another school capital project in Prince Albert - the addition of a new gymnasium for Carlton Comprehensive. We look forward to more announcements on that project as the work progresses."

"On behalf of the Prince Albert Catholic Board of Education, we are pleased with the partnerships developed in building this state of the art École St. Anne School," School division Board Chair George Bolduc said. "The staff and students have recently moved into the new school and are extremely thrilled to be in the building. It truly is one of the finest schools in Saskatchewan!"

The new PreK-8 dual track school will accommodate French immersion students that were attending other schools in the community, resulting in a larger overall enrolment at the new location. The school is designed for an opening enrolment of 400 students and a 25 seat child care centre.

Government has committed more than $376.5 million since November 2007 to move forward 38 major school capital projects and about 710 additional smaller school capital projects across the province. This represents a record high investment in school infrastructure over a four year period.
