Cypress Hills MLA Wayne Elhard on behalf of Education Minister Donna Harpauer attended the grand opening of Maple Creek Composite School along with students, staff, board members and community members. The celebration featured a ribbon cutting ceremony and speeches by Wayne Elhard, Mayor Barry Rudd, Deputy School Division Director Kyle McIntyre, and Board Chair Randy Beler.
The addition and renovation to Maple Creek Composite High School was required to provide adequate space for the existing grade structure as well as Grade 6 and 7 students from nearby Sidney Street School. The renovation will also increase building efficiency by at least 25 per cent. The Ministry of Education contributed $4.8 million toward this project which is valued at $8.4 million.
"This project has been highly anticipated and I am pleased that students in Maple Creek now have an updated learning environment with ample space for educational programming," Elhard said. "Maple Creek Composite School is now a modern, energy efficient school of which students, teachers and the community can be proud."
"We are pleased to see the completion of the project," Beler said. "The Maple Creek Composite School will offer an attractive and functional environment for our students, staff and families for many years into the future."
Government has committed more than $376.5 million since November 2007 to move forward 38 major school capital projects and about 710 additional smaller school capital projects across the province. This represents a record high investment in school infrastructure over a four year period.
