The Government of Saskatchewan is urging people across the province to voice their opinions on the administration of The Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act.
The provincial Occupational Health and Safety Council is conducting a review of the administration of the Act and Regulations as required every five years. This review will deal only with the administration of the Act and not revisions to the Act and Regulations themselves.
The Occupational Health and Safety Division administer the Act and Regulations, providing both education and enforcement services.
Enforcement activities include workplace inspections as well as investigations into workplace fatalities, serious incidents or dangerous occurrences, harassment complaints and work refusals. Education activities include guidelines and occupational health committee and supervisory training.
In addition, the Division provides technical support activities including testing for hazardous substances such as asbestos, monitoring radiation equipment as well as testing and/or advising on ergonomics and other workplace hygiene and toxicology issues.
The Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations cover all workers in provincially-regulated workplaces, or approximately 90 per cent of the total provincial workforce.
