GOVERNOR GENERAL TRAVELS ON FIRST OFFICIAL VISIT TO SASKATCHEWAN

Premier Brad Wall announced today that His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston will visit Saskatchewan September 11 to 13.

"On behalf of the people of Saskatchewan it is my pleasure to welcome the Governor General to Saskatchewan on this, his first official visit to our province," Wall said. "Ours is a land of many diverse, innovative and growing communities each with a rich cultural history and unique heritage. I am pleased that His Excellency will have this opportunity to meet residents of our great province to discuss, share stories, experiences and ideas."

After arriving in Regina on September 11, the Governor General will attend a memorial service at the RCMP Depot Division before travelling to the community of Gravelbourg to participate in a Fransaskois Flag dedication ceremony. His Excellency will then attend a private reception and dinner hosted by Lieutenant Governor Dr. Gordon Barnhart at Government House in Regina.

On September 12, Premier Wall and Provincial Secretary Donna Harpauer will welcome Their Excellencies to the Saskatchewan Legislative Building before touring the Saskatchewan War Memorial and Legislative Assembly. The public is invited to attend Their Excellencies arrival and will have the opportunity to observe an inspection of the Honour Guard, a 21 gun salute and a fly-past by 15 Wing Moose Jaw, the program begins at 10 am on the steps of the Legislative Building.

The Vice-Regal Party will then travel to the First Nations University of Canada at the University of Regina to participate in a discussion with students before touring the Lajord Hutterite Colony.

On September 13, His Excellency will travel to Saskatoon and visit Wanuskewin Heritage Park before meeting with students and faculty at the University of Saskatchewan.

Governor General David Johnston was sworn into office on October 1, 2010, he is the 28th governor general since confederation.
