Premier Brad Wall has accepted an invitation to address the American Legislative Exchange Council's States and National Policy Summit on Friday in Phoenix, Arizona. Between 800 and 900 top political leaders from all 50 states will be attending the three-day Summit which will focus on free-market solutions to creating jobs, improving education and stimulating the American economy.
"There are some current challenges in the Canada-United States relationship," Wall said. "We've been excluded from bidding on contracts under The American Jobs Act, Canadians who travel across the border by rail or air now have to pay a fee and there is the political battle delaying the future of the Keystone XL Pipeline project, a project crucial to western Canada's oil sector.
"Americans need to hear that various forms of protectionism will hurt prospects for economic recovery in North America. Rather we must work together - as we have historically - to the mutual benefit of our citizens," Wall said.
Canada and the United States share the world's largest trading relationship, with almost $1 million worth of goods and services cross the border every minute of every day.
Saskatchewan is the second least dependent provincial economy on the United States for the province's exports. Even at that, the province exported over $15 billion worth of goods to the U.S. last year, about 63 per cent of the province's total exports.
