Jackson Sandblasting & Painting Ltd. of Saskatoon has pleaded guilty to one count under the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act related to a failure to provide or maintain a work environment that ensured the health, safety and welfare of a worker. The company was fined $8,540 in Saskatoon Provincial Court.
The conviction related to an incident that took place on December 1, 2008. A worker sustained serious burns as a result of an explosion that occurred while spray painting a truck. Five other charges against Jackson Sandblasting & Painting Ltd. were stayed.
OHS conducts about 4,000 worksite inspections annually to ensure standards are known, understood and enforced and investigates where workers are killed or seriously injured in a work related incident.
