GAMING GRANTS INVEST $1.6 MILLION IN SASKATCHEWAN COMMUNITIES

The Government of Saskatchewan is delivering more than 800 grants to volunteer organizations in communities across the province. The Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) is distributing a total of $1.6 million through charitable gaming grants.

"Whether teaching kids to play hockey or delivering assistance during a time of need, volunteer organizations are a vital part of Saskatchewan communities," Minister responsible for SLGA Tim McMillan said. "Our government is proud to offer a helping hand to hard working volunteers across Saskatchewan by investing in community organizations through charitable gaming grants."

Examples of the grants include:

  • $297,677 for the Hospitals of Regina Foundation,
  • $21,912 for the Blaine Lake Senior Citizens Centre,
  • $83,391 for the Canadian Red Cross Society,
  • $23,182 for Saskatchewan Amateur Football, and
  • $52,962 for the Assiniboia Civic Improvement Association.

Among the grants provided by SLGA, La Ronge and area received $89,463; Prince Albert and area: $62,266; Melville and area: $32,804; Assiniboia and area: $53,709; North Battleford and area: $45,740; and Meadow Lake and surrounding area received grants totalling $39,628.

These quarterly grants are based on a percentage of net proceeds raised through licensed charitable gaming activities, such as; bingos, raffles, break-open tickets, and poker and Monte Carlo events. Charitable gaming reports submitted by groups are used by SLGA to automatically calculate grants.
