Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration Minister Rob Norris presented the 2010 AEEI - General Educational Development (GED) Academic Achievement Award to Dylan Bushby at the Regional Colleges' and Saskatchewan Adult Basic Education Association Conference today.
"The Government of Saskatchewan recognizes the importance of a high school completion credential and I congratulate Mr. Bushby on his tremendous accomplishment," Norris said. "The GED Grade 12 Equivalency Diploma is key to further education and a job."
This is the second year this award has been presented to the individual who wrote the GED test for the first time and received the highest total score in Saskatchewan during the previous calendar year. The recipient must have completed a GED Preparation Course from a Post-Secondary Institution that receives core funding from AEEI.
GED provides adults with the opportunity to earn a high school completion credential, the GED Grade 12 Equivalency Diploma. Candidates must complete a set of five tests covering math, science, reading, writing and social studies. The five GED tests, which last more than seven hours over two days, also measure communication, information processing, problem solving and critical thinking skills.
"Our government is committed to improving education and employment outcomes for all Saskatchewan people; the General Educational Development Testing program is an important part of that commitment," Norris said.
Since 1970, more than 62,000 Saskatchewan adults have earned their GED Grade 12 Equivalency Diploma.
