The Village of Hodgeville was recently approved for assistance under the Emergency Flood Damage Reduction Program to construct an improved drainage channel. Saskatchewan Watershed Authority will provide 75 per cent of the estimated cost with a grant totalling $42,975 for the channel improvements. The project was assessed and designed by AECOM with funding from Emergency Food Damage Reduction Program.
"I am pleased that government is able to assist the Village of Hodgeville with their flood protection plan," Minister responsible for Saskatchewan Watershed Authority Dustin Duncan said. "By working proactively we will reduce the risk of flood damage this spring."
"This is just another example of how this government is committed to making Saskatchewan a better place to live and raise a family," Corrections, Public Safety and Policing Minister and Wood River MLA D. F. (Yogi) Huyghebaert said.
The $22 million Emergency Flood Damage Reduction Program provides technical and financial assistance to communities and individuals to protect homes and permanent structures against flood damage in 2011. Due to a wet fall and above-average snow accumulation, the risk of flooding during the spring runoff is higher than normal.
