BEST WHOLESALE FIGURES FOR JANUARY IN SASKATCHEWAN

Released on March 17, 2011

Wholesale trade statistics for January 2011 were released by Statistics Canada today and provide some good news for Saskatchewan. According to the report, wholesale trade increased by 17.4 per cent in January 2011 over January 2010 (seasonally adjusted) - the highest percentage increase among the provinces.

Saskatchewan had the second highest percentage increase in Canada with a rise of 4.0 per cent between December 2010 and January 2011.

"Today's report is good news for Saskatchewan wholesalers as they continue to see an increased demand for products," Enterprise Minister Jeremy Harrison said. "The rate of economic activity determines the level of wholesale trade, and our strong economy is spurring activity in trade."

Nationally, wholesale trade was up 5.2 per cent January over January and up only 1.5 per cent in January 2011 over December 2010.
