REGINA PROJECT RECEIVES INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION

Released on March 14, 2011

The replacement project of the aging 1913 portion of the Regina Provincial Correctional Centre (RPCC) has been acknowledged on an international scale.

The Ministry of Corrections, Public Safety and Policing, in partnership with the Ministry of Government Services is pleased to receive an honourable mention in the 2011 American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Technology Award program.

"We are proud to display the award plaque in the RPCC lobby," Corrections, Public Safety and Policing Minister D.F. (Yogi) Huyghebaert said. "It's rewarding to receive this outstanding achievement for a new system that is energy efficient and maintenance friendly for facility operations personnel."

"The Ministry of Government Services is working in a number of areas to reduce the government's environmental footprint," Government Services Minister Laura Ross said. "Adopting performance standards for new construction is one way we are working to that. For large projects such as the Regina Provincial Correctional Centre we have set a goal of meeting a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) silver rating."

The ASHRAE Technology Award program recognizes successful applications on an international scale for innovative design and operation of energy efficient buildings.
