The improvements to Saskatchewan's Provincial Parks continue, with the addition of a new service centre, electrical service to 118 campsites and upgraded electrical service in 69 campsites in Cypress Hills Interprovincal Park.
Meadows Campground in Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park will receive a new service centre building along with electrical service added to 98 campsites. Twenty existing sites in Terrace Campground will receive new electrical service, while an additional 69 campsites will receive upgraded electrical service.
"Cypress Hills Interprovincal Park continues to be one of our most popular parks," Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Bill Hutchinson said. "The new service centre and additional electrical sites will provide our visitors with first-class facilities in a beautiful setting."
Riverside Electric of Swift Current has been awarded a contract to provide electrical service to 20 campsites and upgrade electrical service to 69 campsites within Terrace Campground, while Livewire Electric Ltd. of Shellbrook has been awarded a contract to provide electrical service to 98 campsites within Meadows Campground. Amron Construction Ltd. of Redcliff, Alberta has been awarded a contract to build the new service centre building in Meadows Campground.
These improvements fit with government's goal to continue improving Saskatchewan's provincial parks. Providing electrical service to these non-electric campsites will contribute toward the government meeting and exceeding their commitment of providing 1,000 more electrified sites in parks over four years. Along with adding and upgrading electrical service, the ministry is also replacing or upgrading some service centres, historic facilities, potable water systems and some picnic tables and barbeques.
Work on the service centre and electrification is scheduled to start mid-July.
Another addition to Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park this summer is the opening of a zip-line canopy tour and rock climbing wall. These exciting additions, developed and operated by a private operator, are tentatively scheduled to be open July 1, 2011. Saskatchewan provincial parks are a great place to celebrate Canada Day.
