SASKTEL EXTENDS 4G WIRELESS COVERAGE TO 15 MORE LOCATIONS

SaskTel has expanded its 4G wireless network to 15 more locations across the Province of Saskatchewan.

"Construction of the 4G network is a significant development for SaskTel and its customers in Saskatchewan," Minister responsible for SaskTel Bill Boyd said. "SaskTel 4G wireless coverage is already available to more than 98 per cent of the population."

"Our 4G wireless network delivers increased bandwidth, greater international roaming and a wider selection of wireless devices," SaskTel President and CEO Ron Styles said. "4G is the new industry standard and will enable SaskTel to make a smooth transition to future generations of wireless technology."

The 15 tower locations, along with 4G coverage details, are:

  • Antler: provides coverage to the oil and gas area east of Redvers including highway 13 near the Manitoba border.
  • Archerwill: provides coverage to the area west of Archerwill including highways 35 and 349.
  • Arelee: provides coverage to the area southwest of Radisson including highway 376.
  • Belbutte: provides coverage to the area between Spiritwood and Glaslyn including highway 3.
  • Bjorkdale: provides coverage to the area southeast of Tisdale including highway 23 south of Crooked River.
  • Crooked River: provides coverage to the area east of Tisdale including highways 3 and 23.
  • Hubbard: provides coverage to the area south of Ituna including Star Blanket Cree Nation, Little Black Bear First Nation, and highways 15 and 310.
  • Hudson Bay: provides coverage to the town of Hudson Bay and the surrounding area including highways 3 and 9.
  • Lestock: provides coverage to the village of Lestock and the surrounding area including highway 15.
  • Missinipe: provides coverage to the Missinipe area.
  • Montreal Lake: provides coverage to Montreal Lake Cree Nation.
  • Rose Valley: provides coverage to the town of Rose Valley and the surrounding area including highway 35.
  • Spy Hill: provides coverage to the village of Spy Hill and the surrounding area including highways 8 and 22.
  • Stanley Mission: provides coverage to the community of Stanley Mission and the surrounding area.
  • Wishart: provides coverage to the area south of Wynyard including Day Star First Nation.

The 4G network provides increased bandwidth with download speeds approximately four times faster than existing speeds (up to 21 megabits per second, and up to 42 megabits per second in Regina and Saskatoon after an upgrade to be complete by this summer). It is also compatible with approximately 80 per cent of all networks across the world and international roaming customers will be able to use their SaskTel 4G device on 4G networks anywhere.
