LLOYDMINSTER AGRICULTURE OFFICE OFFICIALLY OPENS ITS DOORS

Released on July 28, 2011

Alberta and Saskatchewan Governments Partner to Improve Services for Local Producers

In the spirit of the New West Partnership, today the Governments of Saskatchewan and Alberta officially opened a new joint satellite agriculture office in Lloydminster. Staff at the new office will provide local producers with information and advice on crops, livestock, forages, farm business management and marketing.

"The previous government closed the Lloydminster rural service centre in 2004, leaving producers without provincial agriculture extension services," Saskatchewan Crown Investments Corporation Minister and MLA for Lloydminster Tim McMillan said, on behalf of Agriculture Minister Bob Bjornerud. "Our government believes local producers should have access to local extension services and we are very pleased to partner with the Government of Alberta to provide these services at this new office."

"With this satellite agriculture office, our governments are breaking down borders and working together to provide in-person services for producers in Lloydminster and the surrounding rural communities," Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Jack Hayden said. "We're pleased to be able to partner with Saskatchewan in offering these important services and resources in an efficient and cost-saving manner."

Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development will have an agriculture marketing specialist available to provide marketing information for grains, oilseeds and livestock markets. Appointments can be booked through the Vermilion office at 780-853-8240.

Specialists from the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture will be available to provide producers with information on crops, livestock, forages and farm business management. Producers can book an appointment with a specialist by calling 306-446-7962.

The Lloydminster satellite agriculture office is located at Suite 107, 5303 - 50 Avenue. The Alberta specialist is available on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saskatchewan Agriculture specialists are available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursdays.
