SASKATCHEWAN TO HOST NORTH AMERICAN WILDLIFE ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS CONFERENCE

Released on July 18, 2011

Saskatchewan is hosting the 30th annual North American Wildlife Enforcement Officers Association Conference in Saskatoon from July 18-24. The Saskatchewan Association of Conservation Officers (SACO) is organizing the international conference with support from the Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment, Environment Canada, Department of Fisheries and Oceans, and other conservation agencies.

The North American Wildlife Enforcement Officers Association (NAWEOA) annual convention brings natural resource law enforcement personnel together to promote conservation, professional development and new training opportunities. NAWEOA is a grassroots organization of approximately 8,000 fish and wildlife enforcement officers from across Canada and the United States. The association is dedicated to the protection and preservation of the continent's natural resources. Since its inception at Great Falls, Montana in 1980, NAWEOA has grown from 16 officers into an international natural resources enforcement association.

"The Ministry of Environment is pleased to support the Saskatchewan Association of Conservation Officer's in sponsoring this year's conference," Environment Minister Dustin Duncan said. "Sharing knowledge and experiences contributes to ensuring that we can continue to enjoy the benefits and opportunities that our wonderful natural environment provides."

The four day conference will feature a variety of professional training opportunities and interesting presentations which showcase work and achievements from the Ministry of Environment and other jurisdictions across North America. However it's not all work, the conference has plenty of social events planned to promote an "esprit de corps," including favorites such as "The Warden Skills Competition".

This year's conference will also provide a significant economic benefit to the City of Saskatoon and to the Province of Saskatchewan with the arrival of hundreds of out of province delegates and their families
