DUCK MOUNTAIN PROVINCIAL PARK CAMPSITES TO RECEIVE ELECTRICAL EXPANSION

Duck Mountain Provincial Park is celebrating its 80th anniversary with more electrified campsites. Duck Mountain is the latest provincial park to receive the upgraded campsites as part of the Saskatchewan Government's four year commitment to add electricity to 1,000 campsites.

Visitors to Duck Mountain Provincial Park will see electrical service added to 80 existing campsites and upgraded electrical service to 86 existing campsites within Spruce and Poplar Campgrounds.

Livewire Electric Ltd. of Shellbrook, Saskatchewan has been awarded the contract to add the electrical service and upgrades. Work is expected to begin by mid-August of this year.

"We have been working hard to offer our visitors improved services," Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Bill Hutchinson said. "This electric expansion is an example of our Government's commitment to providing enhanced camping opportunities within our provincial parks."

This electrical expansion is just the latest upgrade for Duck Mountain Provincial Park, which received a new service centre and a boat launch upgrade in 2010.

These improvements fit with government's goal to continue improving Saskatchewan's provincial parks. Providing electrical service to these non-electric campsites will contribute to the government meeting and exceeding their commitment of providing 1,000 more electrified sites in provincial parks over four years. In addition to upgrading electrical service, the ministry is also replacing or upgrading some service centres, potable water systems, historic facilities and some picnic tables and barbeques.

2011 is the 80th anniversary of the provincial park system. This milestone event is being commemorated with special events throughout the park system. Duck Mountain Provincial Park, one of Saskatchewan's original parks created in 1931, will hold events throughout the summer celebrating this important anniversary.
