UPDATE ON SASKATCHEWAN TEACHER BARGAINING

Released on July 6, 2011

The following joint statement was issued by the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation and the Government-Trustee Bargaining Committee.

Update on Saskatchewan Teacher Bargaining

Yesterday, representatives from the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation (STF) and the Government-Trustee Bargaining Committee (GTBC) met with Labour Relations and Workplace Safety Minister Don Morgan to receive the report from the special mediator, Richard Hornung.

Minister Morgan shared the report with the STF and GTBC and the report was released publicly today at 3:00 p.m. With the receipt of the report, the mediation process has concluded.

While a tentative agreement was not achieved directly through the mediation process, both parties have agreed that the report and recommendations will form the basis of a tentative agreement. Based on this commitment and the recommendations of the report, both parties will collaborate on the preparation of an acceptable tentative agreement to be circulated to their respective members/principals.

"We are pleased that we have successfully concluded the mediation process and are now at the point of drafting a collective agreement with the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation," said Sandi Urban-Hall, spokesperson for the Government-Trustee Bargaining Committee.

"The involvement of an independent third party has been an important step in the bargaining process. Both the Teachers' Bargaining Committee and the Government-Trustee Bargaining Committee participated in the mediation process in good faith," said Gwen Dueck, chief spokesperson for the Teachers' Bargaining Committee.

The STF and GTBC have agreed not to make any further comment at this time.
