Highways and Infrastructure Minister Jim Reiter has designated February 27 to March 5 as Engineering and Geoscience Week in Saskatchewan to salute these dedicated professionals.
"On behalf of the people of this great province, I want to acknowledge the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS) for their continuing positive contributions to our daily lives," Reiter said. "Engineers and geoscientists play a key role in Saskatchewan's transportation system by ensuring it moves goods as safely and as efficiently as possible to support our export-based economy. They work to make sure our citizens can get to the vital services they need."
APEGS is the governing body responsible for regulating the practice of engineering and geoscience in the province. At just under 9,000 members, APEGS is one of Saskatchewan's largest and most respected professional associations.
"Professional engineers and geoscientists are making contributions in every sector and are key players in Saskatchewan's transportation sector," APEGS President Shawna L. Argue, P.Eng., FEC, said. "Our members are involved in research and development, they're figuring out ways to renew highway infrastructure, they're applying new innovations in processes, materials and systems and they're cost-effectively managing major projects around the province."
APEGS members also work in a variety of other sectors, such as agriculture, construction, environment, forestry, infrastructure, manufacturing, utilities and resources.
