SASKJOBS.CA OPENS 2011 WITH HUGE JUMPS IN JOB POSTINGS, VISITS

Released on February 3, 2011

Job seekers from Saskatchewan, across Canada and around the world visited www.saskjobs.ca in droves this January - with good reason.

The site saw 10,183 job postings in January, a 27 per cent increase over last year and the largest January total since 2008. Employers from 278 Saskatchewan communities posted opportunities to the site.

"Workers and employers in every corner of our province are benefitting from the opportunities created by a growing provincial economy," Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration Minister Rob Norris said. "With forecasters calling for Saskatchewan to lead the country in growth this year, there is reason to be optimistic that more quality opportunities are on the way."

Of the 10,183 jobs posted to SaskJobs.ca in January:

  • More than a quarter were in the Trades and Transport category, which continues to show significant demand;
  • Two of every three jobs posted were full-time; and
  • Nearly half came from outside Regina or Saskatoon.

SaskJobs hosted a record 869,000 visits in January, its highest monthly total ever and a 22 per cent increase over January 2010. Increases came almost across the board, but were highlighted by a 71 per cent increase in visits from outside Canada.

"Saskatchewan continues to be the place to be for job seekers here, across Canada and around the world," Norris said. "With more than 7,200 jobs available today on SaskJobs.ca, it is easy to see why."

SaskJobs.ca is Saskatchewan's largest job-matching website. The site provides job posting services free of charge for employers across the province and free résumé posting for job seekers around the world.
